Evaluation

I transferred in to this course at week 7 and have overcome a lot of problems that I never thought I would of, including meeting the deadlines that everyone else has had and catching up with everything and even though I know it has not been the total best of my ability, I know that the next semester, I will learn from The New Elizabethans and create bigger and better things! I have really enjoyed learning all the different techniques of Elizabethan make-up and doing things that I have never done but also finding out different things that I didn’t like to do which was taking out the eyebrows and creating a white base of the face. Everything has been a learning curve but a good one because now I know what I need to improve on to better myself for the next project which I am really looking forward to being on the same level as everyone else in my class. I never thought that make-up would be my thing and I recently figured that I just started the styling course for the make-up aspect and have now realised that it’s a career that I want to pursue and better myself. I know the first year won’t be great but all I know is that I can try  110% and be the best that I can be!

As I have been a late starter in to the course, I had to be put into a group of 3 so we could transfer our designs round to each other, so I got Nicola's. If I am being totally honest, I didn't really like the design and it took me quite some time to figure it out and understand what was needed of me. Even though she made a step by step guide for me, which was great, I felt a bit let down from the communication as we would only speak on Facebook or for 2 minutes in class. I felt like I was constantly nagging and asking if she would come to the late night studio with me to go through everything (like I did with phoebe) to make sure I understood everything that was required of me so it couldn't be backfired if I didn't do a certain thing correctly. Therefore, I had to figure everything out by myself which I was a bit disappointed with because it was supposed to be partner work (team work) and I am a big believer in team work. I did manage to overcome the design factor and create, in my opinion, a good piece of work and it looked exactly like the face chart so considering I have never done anything like this in my life I would say I did well. If I was to pick out some pointers and advice to Nicola it would be to; make the face chart clearer and communicate more with her following partner. I think that if I didn't have over come the problems on my own I would of struggled therefore would of got a not so good grade and I wouldn't of been happy or pleased with myself.


Make-up Artist- Phoebe Leung
I think Phoebe and I worked really well together and both understood each other so was easy and fun to work together. Phoebe got my design in the circle and I made sure that she understood every step of everything. So we would go in the studio and practice everything step by step and she even came round to my flat to practice more so I could go through my step by step guide so I knew she would feel confident to do my design, although it was clear, if you didn't know the thought process it would of been hard to understand with the gold that I wanted to co-operate into my design. Overall, we built a friendship which I thought was good because as a new comer I found it quite hard to speak to people because I am quite shy at first and created a great outcome of my design! Well done to her.

Exhanging designs and practicing

This is my partners contemporary design that I will be doing in my assessment... I found it hard at first to understand what my partner wanted to me to perform out of the design but it was just practice that I needed to accomplish to figure out what was needed of me..

 

First practice

 

I kind of just went for it, followed the step by step guide and tried to figure out what it was because it wasn't extremely clear for me to follow with products as I didn't have the products and had to borrow them. But I was quite impressed with how the turn out was...

 

Second practice

 

 



The second practice went a bit better because i added more shimmer on the cheek bone and a dark red lip line as the design shows and defines the lip more. I showed my partner my image and she gave me a few little more tips to create a better look which were bringing the eye shadow more down on the nose and making the base paler...

My final image was definitely the best of my ability in the design and came out clear in the picture of the design and what the designer wanted to overcome in the design. It just goes to show that practice does make perfect and the more you practice the better and clearer you become. Even though I was on a rush of time, I think I demonstrated the design clearly and accurate.



3 Contemporary Elizabethan Designs

Design 1

 

 

 

 

This is my first design that I chose to do, I got inspiration from a neck cuff that I had ona  Halloween harlequin clown costume and thought of the gold theme and then started to research gold Elizabethan make-up and discovered the burgundy to mix into it so it wasn't all gold. As gold reminds me of old and burgundy is the new favourite colour! These are my inspiration images:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Design 2

 

 

I decided to design this contemporary Elizabethan look because I liked the Monochromatic colour theory and wanted to experiment and when I experimented on older posts I decided to make a face chart as well and I think the orange really reflects in to Elizabethan style. With the blurred out lips and undefined eyes with simple colour and contour on the cheeks I thought it would be a perfect design. Here are some of my inspiration images for this look...

 

 

 

 

In one of my make-up lessons I decided to experiment and practice taking out the eyebrows to decide what I wanted to do in my design and decided that I really didn't like using that method or using a white base and wanted to experiment with the orange cheek contour...

Contemporary Interpretation of Elizabethan Make-up

I struggled with this make-up look, I figured that day that I was really not good at taking the eyebrows out or creating a white base so I decided to practice again but still decided that it was just not for me, I love the dark contempory look I just felt a bit rushed in to it and confused.

Taking out the eyebrows

 

Taking out the eyebrows - you use soap and water to create a smooth look on the eyebrow and to mix it in with a pale skin tone is easier, for a white base you just wait for it to dry and then apply the base but if you want a more skin tone feel you put a pinky base over it first to camouflage and then apply the foundation layer.

 

This is my historical Elizabethan look, I kind of got thrown in to it all because it was my first make-up lesson in the make-up and hair design course so being taught how to take out the eyebrows with soap and water really opened my eyes to the crazy things make-up artists do. I hate using a white base for the face but I loved using the orang colour on the cheeks and lips.
